SCEGGS lights up with Ecoglo Stair Treads

Ecoglo’s best practice photoluminescent solution from JustMats has been incorporated as part of the Masterplan developed by Tanner Architects for SCEGGS in the Joan Freeman Science and Technology Centre’s 254 seat tiered lecture theatre. The system design and product performance of the Ecoglo Stair treads ensures the reduction of everyday slips and falls, improvement of accessibility for patrons with impaired vision and aids in wayfinding in all light environments. Using advanced photoluminescent and anti-slip technology Ecoglo products help people safely negotiate steps and paths.

The ecoglo C5 series carpet stair tread is a rounded edge aluminium nosing designed to be installed on rounded or bevelled carpeted stairs to create an aesthetically pleasing and highly visible step edge. The glow in the dark strip is visible for many hours after the lights go out, having been charged from sunlight or artificial light. Glare in the environment, visual reflectance and specular properties of a stair tread can contribute to daytime visibility difficulties. Photoluminescent systems can provide step edge contrast that overcomes these issues and ensures good contrast in light, dark and dim conditions.

The design philosophy incorporates step edge visibility, peace of mind for students, teachers, staff and visitors, increasing safety and security preparedness with failsafe emergency step lighting. SCEGGS building incorporates a number of environmental initiatives, including natural ventilation and daylighting, use of thermal mass and night-time purging, rainwater collection and reuse, plus energy water efficient fittings.

Ecoglo products are manufactured using a patented process that is only used by Ecoglo.
